I finally got pictures from my other camera loaded on the computer, so here are a few more pictures that tell a kind of photo story of our BC group’s travels.
- Entry to Topkapi Palace in Istanbul
- Ramages in front of Mary’s House in Ephesus
- Returning to the ship after our stint on the island of Syros.
- One of many spectacular sunrises aboard the boat which the camera cannot do justice. This one was on our approach to Patmos, I believe.
- We stopped in a magnificent icon shop in Rhodes. Too expensive to purchase one, but you could see the guy “writing” his icons. Here you can see one incomplete on the shelf.
- Very high diving board the students were enjoying on the beach.
- The beautiful harbor of Rhodes. I took a picture here because I could picture a rocky outcrop like this being the place Paul was shipwrecked on the island.
- Jen walking in the Church of St. Titus
- Iconostasis in the Church of St. Titus in Crete.
- Icon of the birth of Mary in the Church of St. Titus in Heraklion, Crete. This disciple of Paul served as bishop here and the church dedicated to him is spendid.
- Another angle inside the cave of St. John in Patmos showing its splendid iconography
- Julia knelt down and started praying in front of one of the obelisks, Apparently she learned well from her Muslim brethren regarding the physical dimension of prayer with prostrations.
- One of three obelisks inside the Hippodrome in Istanbul. It was very cool to go to Rome immediately after this trip and see the numerous monuments the empire brought to this city as well.
- Entrance to the Blue Mosque. Note the cords which block the way. This was a kind way of telling the sultan he could not bring his horse inside the mosque’s precincts
- Another angle on Hagia Irene Church inside Istanbul’s Topkapi Palace
- Joseph taking it easy on the beach in Rhodes
- The Parthenon at night from our hotel’s terrace restaurant
- BC group on the Areopagus or Mars Hill in Athens
- The Hephaistion, best preserved ancient temple in Athens
- Matt and Jen with Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque in the background across the Bosphorus
- BC group in front of Mary’s House in Ephesus
- BC group in front of Ephesus’ well-preserved Celsus Library
- Father and son in front of St. John’s tomb
- Ramages tendering back to our ship from the gorgeous island of Santorini; Grandma Ramage was on the other side of the boat and sadly was missed on this pic
- Ramage boys in front of the great Corinth Canal
- At a table beside the ship’s pool. Great place to hear some music, have a drink, and look out at the Aegean passing by
- On the dock awaiting our departure from the island of Syros
- BC group with Cappuchin Father Luke Gregory in Rhodes.
- Ramage family in front of the almost baroque Orthodox church of St. Minas in Crete
- A more elaborate than usual icon of Christ’s baptism within a tiny church in Heraklion, Crete.
- Joseph playing in the sand on the beach in Rhodes. The diaper that ensued was not fun to change.
- BC group eating at the famous Pudding Shop in Istanbul
- Nice shot of Hagia Sophia in Istanbul
- Just one of the many iconic churches in Oia, Santorini
- A shot of the Pantocrator (“Ruler of All”) which typically fills the dome of an Orthodox Church.
- Icon of the Dormition of Mary in the Church of St. Titus. This is roughly the Eastern Church’s parallel to the Roman dogma of the Assumption of Mary. Notice the interesting baby Mary Jesus is holding in his arms.
